Day to day itinerary
Day 1
Make your way into the Cape Winelands
Today you’ll arrive at Cape Town International Airport where you’ll collect your hire car and take a leisurely drive into the beautiful Cape Winelands, home to the best vineyards and wine estates in South Africa, as well as charismatic little towns and villages that are often well worth exploring.
Drive to the beautiful, historical town of Franschhoek and make your way to Franschhoek Country House and Villas, a restored manor house surrounded by vineyards and spectacular mountains. Franschhoek is the undisputed gourmet capital of South Africa, so make sure you enjoy a fine wine and dining experience at one of the town’s top restaurants, one of which is in the world’s top 100.
Days 2-3
Experience fine wining & golfing
The next two days can be spent enjoying wine or cheese tasting excursions but of course there’s a few rounds of golf to play as well. Some of South Africa’s best courses are in the area, all of which boast simply amazing settings.
Just outside Paarl is Pearl Valley Golf Course (number 5 in South Africa’s top 100 courses), a spectacular Championship course that was shaped by the vision of none other than Jack Nicklaus. The 13th hole (a par-3) is the signature hole and is possibly the most scenic – it will test your skills with water on your right and a greenside bunker.
De Zalze Golf Course is situated just outside Stellenbosch and offers a mix of parkland holes with water features as well as challenging bends. The oak-lined Blaauklippen River runs through the course, adding a unique challenge.
Erinvale in Somerset West is surrounded by the Hottentots-Holland Mountain range and is a visually and mentally stimulating course. The estate has hosted the SAA Open and is a popular Winelands course.
If you’re in the mood for something different, then why not drive into Cape Town for an afternoon and take a quick ride up to the top of Table Mountain in the cable car.
Day 4
Return to Cape Town
Return to Cape Town International Airport after breakfast in the Winelands to drop off your car and catch your outbound flight, or carry on with the rest of your South African holiday.
