South Africa is a beautiful, diverse and incredibly gorgeous country. Approximately the size of Spain and France combined and about twice of Texas’, South Africa diverges from the scenic Garden Route Towns to the raw tropical coasts of KwaZulu-Natal. South Africa also houses the famous Kruger National Park which is a popular safari destination. Known famously as the cultural meeting point of the continent of Africa, South Africa is a must visit for travel enthusiasts. We have compiled a list of some of the best places you should visit when vacationing in South Africa.

  1. Cape Winelands

The majority of wine yards in South Africa can be found in the lush green lands of Boland Basin. The river valleys which flow in to the basin are perfect from growing an assortment of varietals which include Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Sauvignon, and Cabernet to name a few. Cape Winelands also has numerous high-end restaurants, five star hotels, and exclusive boutiques. Cape Winelands can be correctly termed as South Africa’s wine capital.

  1. Addo Elephant National Park

Situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, the Addo Elephant National Park is regarded as the country’s largest park. It is famous for the elephant population it houses and its red soil. There are numerous other species of animals in the park as well, such as warthogs, ostriches and antelope amongst others. A group of lions and hyenas was also housed in the park as part of its expansion.

  1. Garden Route

This scenic stretch of white sands extends from the Mossel Bay to the Storms River. The name was derived from the green vegetation and the lakes and lagoons which dot the coastline. Some of the most breathtaking places to visit in South Africa are located in Garden Route. These include Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Nature’s Valley.

  1. Johannesburg

Johannesburg, or Joburg as it is commonly known as, is regarded as the economic heart of Africa. It is also one of the most popular tourist destination. With more than three million people, Johannesburg is the second largest city in Africa. If we look through history, Joburg is where money was made and fortunes were discovered. Even though Joburg has been stereotyped as a harsh, concrete jungle, inundated by crime, the people defend it ferociously as being a city chock full of opportunity as well as raw energy. A visit to the famous Soweto Township is a must when you visit Johannesburg.

  1. Kruger National Park

Expanding over a wide stretch of outback and prairie in the northern regions of South Africa, Kruger National Park shares borders with Mozambique and Zimbabwe. For its untamed animal population and the diversity of its biota, the park is famously known as the jewel of South Africa’s extensive park system. Numerous well-maintained gravel roads have made Kruger National Park a favorite amongst tourists looking for a self-driving and self-catering experience.
