Etosha

Etosha National Park is regarded as one of Southern Africa’s optimum and most beautiful Game Reserves. It was declared a National Park in the year 1907 and covers an area of 22,270 square km. Etosha National Park is home to a hundred and fourteen mammal species, three hundred and forty bird species, hundred and ten reptile species, sixteen amphibian species and, surprisingly, only one species of fish. The Etosha Park is one of the very first places on any itinerary planned for a vacation in Namibia.

Etosha, which means “Great White Place”, is subjugated by a huge mineral pan. This pan is an important part of the Kalahari Basin, the floor of which was formed approximately a hundred million years ago. The Etosha Pan covers about twenty five percent of the National Park. The pan was initially a lake fed by the majestic Kunene River. However, once the course of the river changed years ago, the lake dried up.

The safari viewing in Etosha National Park is exceptional, and the best time to visit is from May to September which are the calmer and more serene months in Namibia. Tourists to Etosha Game Reserve can anticipate to view numerous wildlife species such as elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and lions.
